Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. – Jesus
Matthew 4:4
We’re almost into a new year! What’s your plan for getting into the Word in 2022? You might already have something lined up, and that’s great! But maybe you don’t, so I’d love to invite you to join Richview’s Church-wide Bible Reading Plan starting January 1. If you just want to get on with joining, click here! If you want to learn more, keep on reading.
Why do a Bible plan?
Scripture reading is both a discipline and delight. It’s a discipline because it takes work. Like any relationship, a relationship with God means ongoing communication and intentional time spent with one another. The way we hear from God most “audibly” is through the Scripture. Here, we learn of God’s greatness, goodness, love, and His design for our lives. For this relationship to grow, we need the discipline of being regularly in the Word.
As you begin a regular pattern of Scripture reading, it may feel like only a discipline for a time, but as your time in the Word grows, so will your desire for the Word. The vast majority of those who have done Richview’s Bible reading plan reported that they have a greater hunger for Scripture, a greater understanding of His word, and a greater love for God because of this consistent time in Scripture. It is a discipline that becomes a delight.
Why do a Bible plan with the church?
With this reading plan, you’ll get the opportunity to share reflections on the day’s passage, to ask questions, to encourage other readers, and to feel part of the Richview community as we read together. This is all made possible through the YouVersion Bible app, which I recommend to anyone with a smartphone! Participation in the comments section of the plan isn’t mandatory, but can be a helpful way of reflecting and internalizing the day’s reading. There are other little bonuses too, like community accountability, and a sense of accomplishment when you get a checkmark at the end of the day!
Why do this Bible plan?
Of course, you should do whatever Bible plan works for you and will best help your relationship with Jesus. No plan is worse or better than another, just choose one! This year, Richview’s reading plan will consist of the New Testament as well as Psalms and Proverbs. In Proverbs, we will read of the wisdom of God for navigating everyday life. In Psalms, we read the hymnbook of God’s people, which is a regular opportunity to worship God in our joys and sorrows. And in the New Testament, we will read about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how He can change our lives.
How do I join?
To join, you’ll need a smart device (your smartphone, tablet, or computer will work just fine). Simply use whichever device you want to read with and then click here! You’ll be prompted to download the YouVersion Bible App if you don’t already have it installed. Then create an account and join the plan! It’s easy. Just follow the on-screen prompts. If you have trouble, shoot me an e-mail.
I would love to see our church community thrive in our walks with Jesus because we are being fed daily by the very Word of God. There is no substitute for Scripture.
Lord willing, see you in 2022!
Pastor Tyler
